Techniques Available:
Students in my laboratory currently have the opportunity to learn and use the following techniques in their research:Surgical and behavioral techniques:
stereotaxic brain surgery in adult and developing animals, infusions of drugs and selective neurotoxins into discrete brain regions, sophisticated behavioral techniques designed to measure sustained attention, cognitive flexibility and conditioned reward.Neurochemical techniques:
simultaneous measurement of neurotransmitter efflux (i.e. ACh, DA, GABA, Glu) from multiple brain regions in behaving animals using microdialysis or second-by-second neurotransmitter release and clearance using selective biosensors and amperometric techniques; use of antisense oligonucleotides to reversibly inactivate neurotransmitter systems, immunohistochemical measurement of transmitters, associated enzymes (PVB, GAD67), and immediate early genes (i.e. c-fos) as markers of neuronal activityDr. John Bruno (292-1770) bruno.1@osu.edu
