Marc J. Tassé

Marc J. Tassé, PhD is the Director of The Ohio State University (OSU) Nisonger Center, a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). He is also a licensed psychologist and Professor in the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry at Ohio State. Tassé’s experience includes 25 years of experience in conducting research and providing clinical services in the field of intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and other related developmental disabilities (DD). Tassé has conducted close to 200 trainings, workshops, and presentations related to ID, ASD, and other related DD. His publication record includes more than 95 articles in peer-reviewed journals, chapters, and books in the area of intellectual and developmental disabilities. He is a co-author of the AAIDD (2002 and 2010) Terminology and Classification Manual and AAIDD User’s Guide (Schalock et al., 2012) as well as Chair of the AAIDD task force working on the development of the Diagnostic Adaptive Behavior Scale. He has co-authored several published standardized assessment instruments in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities, including the assessment of adaptive behavior, assessment of problem behavior, and measurement of support needs. Tassé is a Fellow of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD), American Psychological Association (APA), and International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD). Tassé has consulted and testified in several capital cases involving intellectual disability determination. He is a Past-President of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

Research & Clinical Interests

Tassé’s research and clinical interests are in the area intellectual disability (ID), autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related developmental disabilities. His research has been focused in the area of co-occurrence of intellectual disability or ASD and psychiatric problems or problem behaviors, understanding and measuring adaptive behavior, test development, and the concept of support needs. His recent research has also centered on the study of the health and well-being of persons with ASD, ID and other related developmental disabilities. Tassé’s clinical interests include the diagnosis of intellectual disability, the assessment and treatment of problem behavior and psychiatric disorders in individuals with ID or ASD. He does some forensic work around the determination of intellectual disability in capital cases.
